October 9, 2018PRAKSIS: Taking Hold —The Double Bridge
From next week, I’ll be part of Residency 12 at PRAKSIS in Oslo. Looking forward to what comes and if you’re in Oslo stop by the ‘Meet the residents’ event next Tuesday at Kunstnernes Hus. I’ve prepared a special, all-new 7 minute/32 slide presentation going all the way back to 2006 that traces my journey from working with my body and as a commercial photographer in NYC to becoming a politically aware immigrant in Norway finding one’s voice through artist publications.
The residency’s focus is on the physical expression of solidarity, competition and antagonism in social relationships, and its research will foreground performance for camera as a means of enquiry. It has been developed with artist and activist Phoebe Davies and events will be held in collaboration with Kunstnernes Hus.
Davies and PRAKSIS’s founding director Nicholas John Jones reviewed a total of 60 residency applications, all of whose quality made the final selection a challenging process. The seven people eventually identified are: Emma Bäcklund (SE), Marte H S Dahl (NO), Bianca Hisse (BR), Ayesha Jordan (US), Shahrzad Malekian (IR), Jessica Williams (US/NO), and Sam Williams (UK).
