Greetings from Pamflett!

Greetings from Pamflett Self-Publishing Workshop in Bergen!
I’m here on an artist residency for the next two weeks, leaving the last day of the 2017 Bergen Art Book Fair. At the fair I’ll be launching a brand new Riso-printed book called Å Finne Stemmen (Finding One’s Voice). The completion of the book will also culminate in a solo exihibition in the Pamflett space.

NYABF (so close, so far)

Surfing the web at home here in Norway = psyched to peep my zine in this pic snagged from Ulises‘ Instagram. They’re representing Philadelphia which of course includes High Tide‘s beautiful Risograph offerings. Check them out this weekend at table N25 if you find yourself in Queens.

Fotobokfestival Oslo 2017

This year’s Fotobokfestival Oslo opened last Friday at Arbeidersamfunnets Plass. In the square there are three containers. Slightly hidden in one of them (Punk) is a copy of Oslofjord. This book is still not reliably stocked here in Oslo, so if you are a local and want a copy, this is your chance! Last day to visit the containers is September 21.

LIAF

For the next month, two of my publications are a part of Mondo Books‘ installation at the 2017 Lofoten International Art Fesitval (LIAF) in Henningsvær. The books are both on view and for sale, if you find yourself that far north.
Islands Of The Sun, the title of Mondos’ contribution, is a selection of books and printed matter “organized as a fictional infrastructure, connecting islands, swamps and shifting seaboards and geographies to open critical perspectives on ecologies in flux, both locally and globally”.

There’s an interview (på norsk) up now on the Deichman literature blog where I mostly talk about the (old) Internet and fermentation. One week left to catch my show in Grünerløkka!

Growing up on the Internet and paper
Deichmanske Bibliotek Grünnerløkka
June 24 – August 5, 2017
Jessica Williams (1986, Anchorage) is an artist based in Oslo. Working within the fields of publications, photography and new media, her primary concerns are the power of language and everyday physicality in an increasingly digital world. She has had her work featured in several international publications and has exhibited widely including solo shows in New York City, Glasgow, Oslo, Malmö, Barcelona, and Austin, Texas.
For the show at Galleri VIS, her entire collection of self-produced printed matter spanning over a period of 15 years will be on view. Back in the early days of the Internet, there was a nostalgic longing towards the exchange of physical objects. It was as a lonley teenager in a Texan suburb that Williams began to produce fanzines of her collages to trade online. Since then printed matter has made up a large part of her artistic practice. As a companion to the exhibtion, all the publications have been scanned and will be available to view online.
The Saturday opening will be celebrated inside the libary and outside in the sun, with snacks from Indre Oslo Matforedling and my homemade soda.

Documentation, 2 new texts
Documentation from High Tide is now up. Thanks to Joe Webb for the pics!
I’ve also uploaded two new texts on Medium, both made while preparing for the exhibition. One specifically pairs with a project, while the other stands alone; one is floaty and amorphous, while the other clings to a structure. Both are titled with the day upon which they were written. #empathy # language #technology #purgatory 😅
