Next week in Oslo, Lillehammer and Stavanger

Next week is going to be a very busy and exciting time for myself and Hverdag Books. Three public talks, an exhibition, an art book fair and a brand new fanzine based on a news diary I kept online during the crisis in Gaza and NRK strike. Oh my.

First up:

Why Riso? – a debate and an exhibition” at Tøyen Startup Village on Wednesday, May 30.

Then I’ll be in Lillehammer June 1-2 at Kunstbokmessen Bastard hosted by Oppland Kunstsenter. On the 1st I’ll also be part of a panel debate on artist’s books and zines as a part of the Norwegian Literature Festival.

The day after I’m off to Stavanger and will be dropping-in and possibly helping out a few Riso workshops at Kunsthall Stavanger. On Tuesday, June 5, I’ll be part of another panel: Self-publishing = self-empowerment?

Håper vi sees!

Riso room / Research trip

Tomorrow is the opening of a big Riso exhibition at Risotto in Glasgow. I’ve sent in some works (old and new), hopefully they have arrived safe and sound.

In April (23-27), during their week of intensive workshops, I’ll actually be in town with the two other members of the Norsk Risoforening (Norwegian Risograph Association) on a Riso-Research-Trip. Believe it or not, in Norewgian it sounds even better: Riso-Research-Reise (RRR).

Get in touch for coffees, etc. I’ll mostly be hanging around my favorite place (Good Press) and with the international Riso gang.

Fordypningsrommet Fleinvær

Barely a week ago I returned home from a short week on a very isolated island in the north of Norway at this incredible place. There I was lucky to be one of three artists in residence, spending my time writing, drawing, reading, photographing, and of course: sauna with dips into the freezing ocean.

Only nine reportedly live there full-time and it took less than two hours to traverse the island while taking photographs. Despite how isolated the place was, the hand of man was very visible, especially when following the shoreline. Here are some images from the island: of stone, rope, plastic, water, etc.

Thank you again to Northing and Bergen Zines for putting together a great program! Also Arts Council Norway for supporting this magical trip after the fact. Deeply humbled to be able to encounter new worlds through travel, share my vision and represent Norway.

In two weeks I’m off to Bergen to print a new bilingual artist book about immigration and language. More on that super soon.

Back in December Rolf and I were back in Italy. Just for a quick weekend in Milano, but we were able to take some photos before flying back to Oslo. Thanks to Petra and Alberto for making us the perfect walking map!

So many beautiful architectural details and textures, not to mention the fashion. The best: leather and silk, wool and nylon, garments fabricated with mixed fabrics in the same color. So subtle and good. Updated this page.

Hei NYC

In just a few weeks I’ll be coming back to represent my new home country at the NY Art Book Fair in this year’s Norway Focus room.

At my table Jessica Williams + Friends I’ll be showing my own work, postcards from NSEW, student work made in a workshop I founded, beautiful posters from the Oslo artist space 1857, and more.

To be honest I’m pretty excited!

In 2005, now almost 10 years ago, I interned at Printed Matter. In 2006 I was a volunteer at the very first NYABF. Lots of good, funny and sweaty memories. If you’re in NYC and happen by PS1, do come in and say hi this time around.

Iceland

Today started out pretty horrible but it’s slowly getting better, especially after I remembered I’m spending next week in Iceland with some pretty amazing people. I haven’t been back since 2011 and never not in the summer months.

If someone reading this is there and wants to meet up or has some vital tips (as always) get in touch.
